About Us

South Downs Leisure is an award winning sustainable Charity and Leisure Trust, responsible for the delivery of leisure and hospitality facilities in Adur & Worthing in West Sussex.  We also operate the brand new 50m Sea Lanes in Brighton.

Headed up by a Board of Trustees, South Downs Leisure (SDL) work in partnership with over 80 local clubs, charities, schools and wellbeing providers and we are dedicated to enhancing the lives of local residents.

A grade 2 listed manor house and national award-winning wedding and corporate
hospitality venue. This venue has tennis courts, netball, croquet, petanque and a clay modelling area.

Lancing Manor Leisure Centre

This is a dry side facility and has a six court sports hall, squash, fitness suite, fitness studio, sauna/steam, treatment rooms, 3G football & café.

Palatine Park Football Centre

This is a new football facility which consist of one full size floodlit 3G football pitch that also divides into two or four small sided pitches.

Sea Lanes, the exciting new 50 metre National open water heated swimming pool development on the seafront in Brighton, powered by South Downs Leisure

Southwick Leisure Centre

A dry side leisure facility that boasts a new state of the art fitness suite, fitness
studios, a six court sports hall, sauna/steam, tennis courts and 3G football.

Splashpoint Leisure Centre

Splashpoint Leisure Centre

A swimming and fitness centre that attracts approx. 650,000 visitors per year to this facility which includes a swimming pool, diving pool, leisure pool, fitness suite, fitness studios, treatment rooms, sauna/steam and café.

Wadurs Swimming Pool

This is a 25m 5 lane community swimming pool based in Shoreham.

Worthing Leisure Centre

Worthing Leisure Centre

A large leisure facility. This venue holds a high number of regional events and
sees over 550,000 people visit this site each year. The facility has a fitness suite,
sports hall, squash courts, weight room, function room, café, fitness studios, 3G
football, creche, treatment room, sauna/steam/spa and running track.

We are delighted to present South Downs Leisure’s annual performance report for the financial year 2023-2024.

The year was marked by significant achievements and growth in various aspects of our operations. This report highlights key accomplishments and recognitions, demonstrating our dedication to excellence, community wellbeing and sustainability.

To summarise 2023-24 was a year of investment, embracing opportunities for growth, whilst remaining true to the Triple Bottom Line and our Mission Statement, “To deliver an inclusive range of health and wellbeing initiatives whilst providing a clean safe and happy experience”.

Our charity

As a charity, we help make your community better because as a charitable organisation we are set up to do good.

Every penny goes back into local facilities and to create new programmes communities want and need.

There are 100 PLUS Charitable Trusts in England, Wales, and Scotland and with a combined turnover of £2 billion* a year – that’s a lot of money going back into the local economy. T

his model also enables income from users who can afford to pay to be ring-fenced to subsidise access to activities.

We don’t have shareholders and we are a NOT private businesses.

We work in partnership with the local council, we listen to communities, we are transparent.

Each Charitable Trust delivers slightly different programmes which reflect the need within the community.

All of the 100 plus Trusts across England, Wales and Scotland share a passion to improve social, mental and physical wellbeing the difference we make together is remarkable.

 

Your Health and Wellbeing

By improving people’s health & wellbeing means reducing the cost of treatment and care later in life.

It can help reduce crime and improve educational outcomes, as well as increasing personal happiness.

That carries a social value of £1.5 BILLION.

And it’s not just councils we partner with. Partnership working is part of the DNA of Charitable Trusts. We work with health partners, social care partners and other third sector organisations and charities.

To ensure communities have a voice in what we do, our Board is made up of members from the local community.  We are a registered charity, number 1163564.

We are also a member of Community Leisure and only organisations who conform to good principles of operation and governance achieve this accreditation.

Sustainability Training

At South Downs Leisure we are aware that our decisions and actions can have a direct impact on the environment we live in, we want to where possible make this a positive impact. 

We have started 2022 by sending 50 of our team on Sustainability Training and over the coming weeks and months there will be more positive changes in our charity
