We have fun leisure & sports activities with Premier Education, a craft workshop Bee Fit, Family Trampolining & more at Worthing Leisure Centre!

Your Child can learn a skill for life over the Summer Holidays! Learn to swim at Splashpoint Leisure Centre and Wadurs Swimming Pool with intensive swimming lessons, or try an introduciton to Water Polo. We have Parent & Baby swim sessionsrunning throughout the holidays and there’s even intensive swim lessons for adults too.

Make some noise at our amazing Samba Drum workshop at Lancing Manor Leisure Centre. 

With a wealth of sporting and creative activities taking place, there really is something for everyone this summer holiday with South Downs Leisure’s Summer fun holiday activity programe.

Intensive daily swimming lessons

Aquaschool run weekly Intensive courses during the School Holidays. These are 5 day courses, with one lesson per day – lessons are approx. 20-25 minutes long, in a 30 minute time-slot.

These sessions are taught by our highly qualified instructors and we normally run Stage 1 and Stage 2 lessons. During the summer holidays we also run Stage 3 and Stage 4 lessons, a Breaststroke clinic and a Stage 1 Beginner lesson for older children, age 8+.

The beginner class for the older children, still follows the same criteria but it is in slightly deeper water and helps older children who may lack confidence in the water.

This summer, we are also running some Adult intensives swim lessons, ideal for those wanting to learn to swim later on in life.

Learn to swim

Stage 1:
(Beginners/Non-Swimmers)

Suitability: For children aged 4+ who are in School and cannot swim without buoyancy aids. Water Depth 0.85 metres.

Aim: To learn to travel a minimum distance of 5m on front and back, with correct kicking action for Front Crawl and Back Stroke. Building on water confidence, such as Submerging, Floating and Jumping in.

Stage 2:

Suitability: For school aged Children who can jump in unaided, submerge completely and travel at least 5 metres on front and back with correct kicking action for Front Crawl and Backstroke. Water Depth 0.85 metres.

Aim: To introduce arms for Front Crawl and Backstroke and learn to swim a minimum distance of 10 metres Front Crawl, with basic side breathing and 10 metres Backstroke. Breaststroke and Dolphin leg kick are also introduced.

Stage 3

Suitability: For school aged children who can jump in unaided, submerge completely and swim at least 10 metres Front Crawl (with basic side-breathing), Backstroke and basic Breaststroke. Water Depth 1.2metres.

Aim: To continue to improve on overall swimming technique and stamina for Front Crawl, Backstroke and Breaststroke. Butterfly and basic water survival techniques and skills will also be introduced.

Stage 4

Suitability: For children who can swim at least 25 metres Front Crawl with correct breathing, Backstroke and basic Breaststroke. Water Depth 1.8 metres

Aim: To continue to improve on overall swimming technique and stamina for Front Crawl, Backstroke and Breaststroke and basic Butterfly. Building on Water Survival skills and introducing basic dives.

Stage 1:
(Beginners/Non-Swimmers for 8+ year olds)

Suitability: For children aged 8+ who cannot swim without buoyancy aids. Water Depth 1.2 metres.

Aim: To learn to swim a minimum distance of 10m on front and back, with technique for Front Crawl and Back Stroke. Building on water confidence, such as Submerging, Floating and Jumping in. Introduction to Breaststroke and Butterfly also. After completion of this stage, older children should automatically progress to Stage 3.

Adult Intensives:
(Beginners/Non-Swimmers for 16+ year olds)

Suitability: For adults aged 16+ who cannot swim without buoyancy aids, or are beginners. Water Depth 1.2 metres.

Aim: To learn to swim basic frontcrawl and backcrawl and improve water confidence and learn Aquatic skill such as submerging and floating.

Parent and Baby Swimming Class

Parent & Baby/Toddler Swimming Sessions

This summer, we are hosting our popular Parent & Baby swimming sessions thoughout the holidays – thse are usually term time only.

A relaxed drop in session, suitable for babies and pre-school children under 4 years old, accompanied by a parent/carer. To help build water confidence, strength and co-ordination. There are small floats and toys in the water, with a swimming instructor offering advice and leading a sing-a-long.

Book into these sessions as a class, in the usual way.

Flip ‘n’ Fun

Flip ‘n’ Fun has been created for children as an introduction to Diving, encouraging FUNdamental movement skills in the swimming pool. (Goggles can’t be worn during Flip ‘n’ Fun courses).

This 40 minute session, for 4 days, is aimed at children from 8 to 12 years old. The prime objective is to have fun and give children the chance to experience something new and challenging.

Flip ‘n’ Fun aims to develop fundamental skills and motivate and sustain participation in a positive and fun environment.

Please note these courses will take place in the diving pool, so participants must be deep water confident.

Introduction to Waterpolo

Mini Water Polo

Mini Water Polo is a simple introduction to the Olympic sport of Water Polo, aimed primarily at children aged 8 to 12. Players swim, pass and shoot at goal in much the same way as football, but instead of running and kicking, water polo players swim and throw.

Children should ideally be able to swim breaststroke Please note these courses will take place in the diving pool, so participants must be deep water confident.

Introduction to Rookies

An introduction to lifesaving skills for children at Stage 4 level and above.  Or, for those that do not swim with us the child would need to be able swim 100 meters of a good standard.

Rookie Lifeguard

Breastroke Clinic

Sessions to help your junior improve their breastroke technique, with guidance from our qualifies swimming instructors.
 
This clinic is for children in stage 3 and above, they run from Monday to Friday (5 sessions) and are 20 minutes long in a 25 minutes time slot.

In association with Swim England and the RNLI, Swim Safe are free water safety sessions with the aim to get children aged 8 to 16 years old ready for safe swimming in water.

We offer great workshops designed specially to encourage and develop artistic talent. Your children will enjoy creating all manner of weird and wonderful  treasures using a variety of materials, including their own amazing imagination.

Samba drum workshop

Samba Drum Workshop at Lancing Manor Leisure Centre

Run by Sussex Musical Workshops

In these workshops children practice and perform different Samba rhythms, first using their voices and then on the different Samba drums. Then the whole piece is put together to create a carnival atmosphere.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Additional important information

Although every effort is made to ensure the advertised activities take place, the management reserves the right to cancel at any time and, where possible, offer a suitable alternative.

Please remember to provide a packed lunch if your child is staying all day. Please do not bring in any nuts as a snack or as part of a packed lunch.

We have a selection of skates for skating sessions but do please send children with their own if they have them. Knee/elbow pads and even a cycling helmet are a good idea.

Please ensure children are brought to and collected from the Centre on time. Please phone us if you are going to be late. Children will be instructed to wait inside the building if parents are delayed.

Clothing

Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for all activities, this includes:

  • Sports/casual clothing and trainers (no flip flops please).
  • Socks to be worn for ALL trampoline sessions.
  • All jewellery removed or taped.
  • Gymnastics at Lancing Manor – Leotards are optional, but please ensure suitable clothing is worn that children can move around in and ensure it is not restricting.
  • Remember an apron or old clothing for Art and Craft sessions. These use water based paints however, darker colours may stain. We can not accept responsibility for any clothing affected in this way.
  • Towels, water bottles and full change of clothes and shoes for water games.
  • High Factor Sunscreen and hats must be provided as well as appropriate outer layers for cold or wet weather.

Failure to provide the appropriate attire may result in your child not being able to
participate in activities. We cannot accept responsibility for any damaged clothing items
