Worthing Leisure Centre redevelopment
Follow the transformation of Worthing Leisure Centre as we create a larger gym, improved changing rooms, a new reception and brand-new wellbeing and active play facilities.
Changes to how you enter the centre
From Monday 14th September, the usual main entrance and reception area will not be available. Entry will be through the café garden and café doors. A temporary reception desk will be located within the café, where our team will be available to help as usual. Signage will be in place around the centre.
Access to the weights room, squash courts and studios
Access will be through the main hall doors on the far right, next to the temporary gym entrance. Follow the route straight through the main hall. This will bring you out by the weights room, with access to the squash courts and studios from the adjoining corridor.
Toilets and changing facilities
The toilets currently located in reception will be unavailable while Stage 2 takes place. Alternative toilets are available in the outside changing rooms. The toilets within the Shaftesbury Room can also be used when the room is not already in use.
Accessible changing and baby changing facilities will remain available. These can be found by heading past Studio 1 and turning right.
Last chance to try our new wellness beds
If you haven’t tried them yet, now is your last chance to experience the wellness beds currently located in reception. Once reception closes for Stage 2, the beds will no longer be available to trial. They will return when the new gym opens as part of the new wellness and recovery offer.
The next stage of the redevelopment
Stage 2 will transform the current reception area as part of the wider redevelopment. The centre will remain open throughout the works, with temporary routes and facilities clearly signposted.

The redevelopment is taking shape
Work is progressing on our £2 million redevelopment of Worthing Leisure Centre. This major investment will modernise key areas of the building, improve the customer experience and help the centre continue to meet the needs of our community.
Stage 1 is focused on the new gym and changing rooms. While this work continues, a temporary gym is available in The Range. The weights room remains open during Stages 1 and 2, and group exercise classes are continuing, although some may take place in alternative locations. From Monday 14th September, entry to the centre will be through the café garden and café doors.
Amazon Adventure is now closed while we create a brand-new active play area, which is due to open during Stage 3.
Some parts of the centre may be busier or noisier while the work takes place. Thank you for your patience and continued support.

Progress is now clearly visible throughout the new gym, changing rooms and entrance area as Stage 1 moves forward and we prepare for the reception works.
Work is moving forward
The new spaces are taking shape, with air conditioning installation under way and the structures for the new entrance progressing. Work is also continuing across the changing rooms and dedicated wellness area.
Stage 2 reception works begin on Monday 14th September. From this date, customers will enter through the café garden and café doors. Please see the important access update at the top of this page before visiting.
A first look at the new gym
A larger, more modern gym
The new gym will combine the existing gym with the former Amazon Adventure space, creating a much larger and better-connected fitness area.
The design brings cardio, resistance, functional and strength training together on one main gym floor. Members will still be able to use free weights, racks, benches, cables and strength machines, with more space, upgraded equipment and an improved layout.
The current weights room will become a new multi-functional studio, creating more flexibility for classes, small-group training and future activities.

A bigger strength area with more choice
Strength training is not being removed. It is being upgraded and incorporated into the larger gym, with more racks, more benches and additional equipment.
Key improvements
- Olympic half racks increase from one to four.
- Adjustable benches increase from four to six.
- New equipment includes a dual adjustable pulley, hack squat, Olympic decline bench, plate-loaded hip thrust and Smith machine.
- Selected machines will be upgraded with selectorised or plate-loaded alternatives.
Strength area equipment
The dedicated strength area is planned to include:
- Barbell set and rack
- Dip and leg raise station
- Cable crossover
- Squat rack
- Two dumbbell sets with racks
- Selectorised lat pulldown, leg extension and leg curl
- Plate-loaded leg press, row, shoulder press and hip thrust
- Lower back bench and preacher curl bench
- Four Olympic half racks
- Olympic flat, incline and decline bench presses
- Six adjustable benches
- Dual adjustable pulley, hack squat and Smith machine
This is not the full equipment list for the new gym. Further resistance machines, functional training stations, strength equipment and cardio kit will be available across the wider space.
What this means for members
Members will continue to have access to the equipment and training styles they value, within a larger and more flexible gym. The new layout is designed to improve flow, provide more choice and make better use of the available space.
Worthing Leisure Centre will remain open wherever possible throughout the redevelopment, with temporary arrangements in place at different stages. We will continue to share updates as the new gym takes shape.
A first look at our new reception area
The next phase of the redevelopment will transform the arrival experience at Worthing Leisure Centre, creating a reception area that is clearer, more welcoming and easier to use.
The reception desk will move to a more central and visible position, helping our team greet customers and provide support more easily. New lighting, updated finishes and a fresh colour palette will give the space a brighter, more modern feel.
Improved access and security
New entrance and exit doors will help create a smoother journey in and out of the building. Access control gates will also improve security and make movement through the centre clearer.
Customers will still be able to reach the toilets, café and route to the top football pitches before scanning through the gates. Access to the gyms, studios, courts and other activity areas will be managed through the new system.
A dedicated membership pod
The current reception desk area will become a membership pod, giving customers a more comfortable place to ask questions, explore membership options and speak with our team.

New recovery and relaxation facilities
Our updated wellbeing offer will include a Sunlighten infrared red-light sauna, HydroMassage G3 Lounger and CryoLounge+ recovery chair. These facilities will give customers new ways to relax and support their recovery around exercise.
Sunlighten infrared red-light sauna
Infrared technology uses light-based heat to warm the body more directly than a traditional sauna, creating a gentler warmth and a relaxing experience. Red-light and near-infrared technology will add a modern, recovery-focused element to the new facility.
HydroMassage G3 Lounger
The HydroMassage lounger provides a heated water massage while users remain dry and fully clothed. Sessions can be personalised by adjusting the speed, pressure, temperature and massage area.
CryoLounge+ recovery chair
CryoLounge+ combines targeted cooling with soothing heat while users remain fully clothed. It offers an accessible alternative for customers who are interested in cold recovery but do not want full-body cold-water immersion.
Supporting your wellbeing
These new facilities will complement the wider gym redevelopment and provide more choice in how customers relax and recover. Customers who prefer traditional health suite facilities can continue to use the sauna, steam room and heat beds at Splashpoint Leisure Centre.
Try our new wellness and recovery equipment
Customers can currently try the WellnessSpace Brands HydroMassage and CryoLounge+ in reception, providing an early look at two features that will be available when the new gym opens.
HydroMassage uses heated water massage to support relaxation and ease everyday tension. CryoLounge+ combines targeted cooling with soothing heat to support post-workout recovery.
The equipment is available to customers aged 16 and over only. There is no need to book. Simply speak to a member of staff at reception if you would like to try it.
The equipment will remain available on a trial basis while redevelopment work continues. The bespoke red-light sauna will also form part of the new wellness offer but is not currently available to try.
Current arrangements
Entering the centre
From Monday 14th September, the main entrance and current reception will be closed. Please enter through the café garden and café doors. A temporary reception desk will be available inside the café.
Temporary gym and weights room
The temporary gym is open in The Range at Worthing Leisure Centre. The weights room remains open during Stage 2. Access to the weights room, squash courts and studios is through the main hall doors on the far right, next to the temporary gym entrance.
FIT4 members can also use the gyms at Splashpoint Leisure Centre, Lancing Manor Leisure Centre, Davison Leisure Centre and Southwick Leisure Centre.
Health Suite and Amazon Adventure
The Health Suite and Amazon Adventure are closed during the redevelopment. A new active play area is planned to open during Stage 3.
Toilets and changing facilities
The reception toilets will be unavailable during Stage 2. Alternative toilets are available in the outside changing rooms, with the Shaftesbury Room toilets also available when the room is not in use. Accessible changing and baby changing facilities remain available past Studio 1 and to the right.
Classes and court access
Group exercise classes are continuing, although some may take place in alternative locations. Please check the latest timetable before visiting. Badminton Court 10 may experience occasional disruption while the main corridor is closed.
